The popular RTE broadcaster and historian Myles Dungan is to participate in the Robert Boyle Summer School.
Presenter of RTE's The History Show Myles will be participating in the opening ceremonies on and also will be chairing a panel discussion at the Lismore House Hotel.
The Summer School is a celebration of the life, works and legacy of Robert Boyle, the “Father of Modern Chemistry” and native of Lismore. Starting on July 15 with an evening BBQ and continuing over four days with talks, walks and discussion, the school is a place where scientists and non-scientists can meet and discuss matters relating to our modern world. This year is particularly significant as it’s the 350th anniversary of "Boyle's Law”. It also coincides with the finale of Europe’s largest science conference, ESOF, in Dublin.
World-leading Boyle scholars taking to the stage include Michael Hunter (Birbeck College London), Lawrence Principe (Johns Hopkins University), Michelle DiMeo (Georgia Institute of Technology) and Keith Moore (Royal Society Librarian). Well known scientists such as Jonathan Ashmore FRS and Ingrid Hook will also be in attendance.
Other highlights include a costumed recreation of Boyle's most famous experiments, a guided tour of the castle gardens, a visit to St. Carthage’s Cathedral, a walk in the Blackwater Valley and a coach tour of the surrounding countryside.
